Fastand and Remedia have developed an innovative WEEE container with strong communicative appeal. It is already available in most technology retail outlets across Italy.

At Ecomondo 2018, a review of the collection of small WEEE – which can also be returned via the One Against Zero scheme – was also conducted. Remedia, the Italian collective system for the eco-sustainable management of all types of WEEE, batteries and accumulators, and AIRESConfcommercio, the Italian Association of Specialized Electrical Appliance Retailers, took stock of the progress made following the agreement signed two years previously at the Ecomondo exhibition.

The agreement aimed to boost the collection of small WEEE and ensure proper treatment of electronic waste gathered at AIREA‑affiliated retail outlets (brands including Euronics, Expert, Trony and Unieuro) through an integrated collection service. Remedia consequently processed over 28,300 kg of assorted small electronic items such as remote controls and electric shavers, more than 3,000 kg of mobile phones, and approximately 3,200 kg of light sources (totalling around 170,000 units).

To further increase the collection of small WEEE, the Remedia consortium has also signed a partnership with ANCRA (National Association of Radio, Television, Domestic Appliance, Record and Related‑product Traders). ANCRA has voluntarily resolved to pay greater attention to the responsible management of this category of waste and will launch a pilot project to trial the One‑for‑Zero collection scheme within a selected number of retail outlets under 400 square metres. At present, the legal obligation only applies to stores with a floor area exceeding 400 m². As stated by Danilo Bonato, , General Manager of Remedia:

Great progress is being made thanks to these agreements, including for the collection of waste from small electronic appliances. Italy has long recorded far‑too‑low return rates for these items when compared with other European countries: in Italy, 1 kg is collected for every 6 kg purchased, against a European average of 1 kg for every 4 kg.
Through partnerships such as this one and the agreement signed with ANCRA, which we are pleased to announce today, we will keep promoting the collection of small‑size electronic waste to jointly achieve further growth towards increasingly ambitious targets.
